Aberdare’s Welsh Hills supports charity walk
Aberdare-based Welsh Hills Bakery has donated supplies of its gluten free goodies to help with this year’s Railway Mission Mendip Walk.
This will be the last ever Mission Mendip Walk, run by Railway Mission, as coordinator Reverend Alan Thorpe retires. The annual fundraising event has taken place every year bar one since its inception in 1997 and has raised thousands of pounds for the Railway Mission which offers much needed support to anyone connected with the nation’s railways.
The final event, which takes place on Saturday April 30, will be the biggest the charity has ever organised with 200 walkers signed up to take part in the 14 mile and 18 mile treks.
Welsh Hills Bakery will be on hand to feed the admirable fundraisers along their journey and keep their energy levels high with its Lovemore Free From snacks.
The walk will see fundraisers complete either the 18 mile Challenge Walk or the 14 mile Circuit Walk around the stunning Mendip Hills.
Reverend Alan Thorpe said of the walk: “The walks were really started, not as money-raisers, but to simply enjoy a day walking with colleagues and over the years they have grown and grown. We thank Welsh Hills and all the companies who have supported us.”
Business Development Manager for Welsh Hills Bakery, Paul Haines, said: “We’re delighted to be able to help with the walk which we have done for a couple of years now. It’s a great event for a commendable cause and we hope the walkers enjoy their snack. We wish all the participants well during the event and pass on our best wishes Reverend Thorpe in his retirement.”
